Masterson’s Tavern , situated in the center of Moonee Ponds , markets itself as a trendy “hipster” hangout , but my recent visit at this establishment resulted in an experience I’d rather forget . While the bar may seem appealing from the exterior , what I discovered behind its threshold was disturbing and far below any standard .
Cleanliness Issues : Filthy and Disregarded
From the moment I walked in , it was clear that upkeep was not a priority at this venue. The floorboards were filthy, and a foul smell of decaying beverages and neglected washrooms polluted the entire pub. Emitting a scent of a mixture of human waste, a rotting odor and illness . The counter , which should be the focal point of any pub, was cluttered with dirty glasses and litter that looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in weeks . The toilet was in even a truly awful state— backed up, with a snapped lever and tiles smeared in what I can only assume was feces.

Many patrons have reported spotting critters darting across the counter and evidence of rodent infestations in the storage spaces .
